| As I'll probably tell my friends endless stories about another one of my projects, I thought I might as well publish it from the start... |
| So here it is: |

This is not me. It's not my Volksplane either... Read the story here!
| The idea of building an airplane actually started 16 years ago when I saw the first flight of a Weedhopper at Sövde Airfield in the very south of Sweden. It was fantastic that you could build an airplane (by that time I considered the Weedhopper to be an airplane...) by yourself and then fly it.
But glider pilot as I was (and still is!) it wasn't realistic to build a glider with even moderate performance. And sitting behind a propeller wasn't real flying...
But by accident I suddenly had a Private Pilot Licence (I received a scholarship). All the PA-28 hours didn't cost me anything so I could live with the fact that Real Pilots don't need carpets on the floor in their planes and they definitely don't use a steering wheel... I never planned to continue with propellers and stuff - until I made my first flight in a Piper Cub. Nothing beats gliding - but this was also real flying! Tube, wood, fabric, no starter, stick and tailwheel. And all the people around those planes! No fancy leather bags, "crew" stickers, light-blue shirts and cool Ray-Bans. I decided to keep my PPL... A couple of years ago I helped my friend repainting the Piper L-4 Cub. It was a challenge to tear it down, build it up again and then see the first flight. And even if he let me fly the L-4 as much as I wanted (he still do...) I felt the time had come to get an airplane of my own. A Cub was of course what I wanted and I started looking around. In that time frame I met my wife, we bought a house and suddenly - a daughter and a son! And with all that followed somewhat limited financial resources... The Cub turned into a "really cheap Cub to restore". A Jodel also became an alternative as there were a couple of them for sale in Sweden by that time. I joined the Jodel discussion list and came in contact with a lot of people who were building their own airplanes. And if they can... |
